If you would like to access the family tree database, you wll need to request a new log in.
If you have received your confirmation email or know how to log in, use the following link to connect to the database.
The online database enables anyone with a log-in to update their own information and that of other members of the family.
Rather than looking like a traditional hierarchy, the records are focussed on the details of the individual, and their relationships with others. This enables a traditional hierarchy view amongst many others.
Whilst you are logged in, do update the basic information relating to your immediate family for example, birth and marriage dates, names and locations. You can download and print reports, family tree maps and many other details.
Currently, the information in the database is mostly an extract from Margaret's Family Tree Maker, with a merge from Alexa.
Once you have logged in, enter someone's name or a location in to the search box at the top of the page to get started quickly.
You can access a test family tree to see how the database works so if you want to experiment, do this on the TEST family tree, when you get used to it, apply changes to the live tree.
The database stores individuals (people) and connects them together as families. When you view an individual, you can see the immediate relatives as a family. By clicking on a name, you will be taken to the record for that person. Records can be viewed or downloaded in GEDCOM format so you can load them in to your own program if you want to.
The database is very flexible so if you have a suggestion to make it more useful, let me know.
Your details may be in the database already, check first. If you can find yourself, update your details and add any members of your family who are missing.
Once you have found or created your record, you can link your record to your log-in name. To do this, click on your name at the top of the screen, find the field labeled "Default Individual", type your name, select your record from the list and save.
Sometimes, you will see this: "... ..." which indcates a required record is missing, the mother of a child for example. When you click on this, you may be told "This individual does not exist or you do not have permission to view it.". Wherever you see the pen icon, you can edit the record.
Pictures, videos and other media can be uploaded and attached to records. However this is not an alternative for a photo-sharing application. It can be used to upload a small number of the best pictures and records for an individual, and also shared media which may relate to many individuals.
The "Charts" tab provides useful tools for navigating through the tree. From the person you are viewing, you can go up the tree by looking at Ancestors, or down through the Decendants. The "Pedegree" chart shows a traditional tree view.
The official manual created by other users of the software can be found here.
Visit the login page and click on the "Forgotten Password" link, then enter your email address.
If you find that anything is not as it should be on this page or the database, let me know. I do not have much spare time but will help where I can. You can contact me through the messaging system once logged in.
